Biography
Dick Haakman employs
different styles and techniques. He regards a style less important than a
subject matter. A landscape, still life or portrait is realistically painted in
oil. His impressions of landscapes are in watercolours. Paintings dealing with
musical themes are often done in oil, wax and pigments burned into waxed paper,
creating a dreamlike imagery.
Dick Haakman was born in
1934 and raised in an artistic environment at Bergen. At
an early age he went to live in California
where he studied at the L.A. Academy
after he discontinued his profession as aeronautical draftsman.
Initially he became successful with smartly detailed
realistic work that took him through many places in the Western States. Later,
in 1976, he returned to Europe and
married pianist Mascha van Peijpe. Currently they live in Poederoijen to
organise expositions of his works and concerts in a monumental farmhouse in
Poederoijen.
